Four local bushwalking clubs (including Lake Macquarie Bushwalkers) teamed up to offer six free, short and easy bushwalks for 2026 Women's Week.
The initiative was a great success in introducing women to bushwalking and to our clubs.
All the walks were well patronised and we had lots of fun. And it was wonderful to meet more interesting women who loved walking and loved the bush.
The walks and the local publicity brought bushwalking to the fore. All clubs involved have had an increase in interest from people who want to come along to club bushwalks.
I have left the local walks that were on offer in the 2026 Women's Week itemised below - just so you can get a taste of what we can do for next year's Women's Week!

A scenic 6km loop walk through Green Point Reserve, mainly on bush tracks with some shared pathways. Enjoy the lush bush and views of Lake Macquarie as you walk along. This walk is popular with people of all ages, and no bushwalking experience is required

Listen to the bellbirds in the littoral rainforest as you walk on a well formed track beside the beautiful Flaggy Creek, taking in Leichhardts Lookout and continuing down to Glenrock Lagoon and Burwood Beach. Crossing on the Beach in front of Glenrock Lagoon we will then return along the Burwood Trail, detouring to views of the historic Burwood Colliery (1850).
